Puerto Aventuras Town - Diving Holiday Destination
Puerto Aventuras Town (Mexico)
Puerto Aventuras is located a 55 minute drive south of Cancun Airport, on the Yucatan Peninsula, along the 160km stretch of white beaches, clear blue waters and lush jungle vegetation that makes up the Mexican Riviera Maya.
The Riviera is famous for it s Mayan ruins and for the amazing cenote cave and cavern scuba diving systems.
Puerto Aventuras is an unashamedly modern purpose built tourist and residential resort established around 1998, and is situated between the towns of Playa Del Carmen to the North and Akumal to the south.
It is not as noisy or crowded as Playa Del Carmen or Cancun, and has accommodation to suit all budgets. There are 1200 condominiums and 600 family sized villas spread over the resort, plus all inclusive hotels, beachfront residences and smart boutique spas. The nightlife in Puerto Aventuras is also less hectic than Cancun and Playa del Carmen, with live music available in some of the larger hotels.
The resort’s central focus are the two large marinas, around which plenty of shops and restaurants can be found, including relaxing open air cafes where you can sit and watch dolphins playing in the water nearby. The restaurants vary in price levels, and include international standard, so there’s something for everyone.
From the Marina you can arrange scuba diving and snorkelling trips, swimming with dolphins, you can even experience life on a yacht if your budget allows. Other activities include Golf, horseback riding or having a look around the Maritime Museum, which houses interesting finds from many of the areas shipwrecks. A short distance away are the Mayan Ruins of Tumul.
The main beach area can be found in the middle of the resort at Fatima Bay. In total, there are more than one and a half miles of white sandy beaches which are blessed with shallow water. Jet skiing, water skiing and wind surfing provide plenty to do, although the most popular activity is Scuba Diving.
Climate
The average annual temperature of the Riviera Maya is 25.5 degrees Celsius (78 degrees F), with fluctuations of 5 to 7 degrees (July-Aug: high 80’s to low 90’s/ 32 degrees C) (Dec – Jan: Mid 70’s F/24 degrees C).
In June, July, and August visitors can expect hot sunny summer weather with occasional rainfall. Usually when it rains it rains hard for a little while then dries up quickly. This is also when the sea is the calmest.
The hurricane season runs September through December and the sky can change from clear to overcast in minutes. The ocean water is warmest in August-September and starts to cool down in November.
From July through September the temperature is highest, as is rainfall. This is also the mosquito season.
November, December and January are the coolest months here, which means it's very comfortable. There might be some rain, but not daily. This time of year, nights can be much cooler and a jacket required.
Spring (February to May) is a beautiful time of year on the Riviera, with very little rain and flowers everywhere. The ocean gets calmer and warmer, as temperatures rise. Nights can still be a little cool but the temperature is milder and more comfortable.
All year round the humidity level is very high, often around 90 per cent. Regardless of what time of year you get here, you will have great beach days and not so great beach days but the ocean is always warm enough to swim and snorkel in.
