Dubrovnik City - Diving Holiday Destination
Dubrovnik City (Croatia)
Dubrovnik, located in the South of Croatia, is a city rich with culture and history. Dubrovnik old town was built in the 13th century and remains almost untouched to the present day. Tall walls surround Dubrovnik Old Town.
There are two main portals to the old town, Pile and Ploce, both leading to the Stradun, the Dubrovnik’s main boulevard. Dubrovnik has a rich cultural life that includes Dubrovnik theatre, several cinemas as well as Dubrovnik Film Festival and Dubrovnik Summer Festival, held every year in July and August. It has it’s own airport - Dubrovnik Airport Cilipi, as well as ferry terminal so it can be reached by air from vast range of European cities as well as by various ferries from Croatian cities, towns and islands as well as from Italy.
The Croatian Adriatic Sea is an attractive destination for scuba diving enthusiasts. It attracts many lovers of the underwater world.
Climate
The best period to visit the Croatian coast is from April to October. Peak temperatures in high season summer months (July, August) can reach 38°C (100°F), and the water surface at that point reaches a comfortable 26°C (79°F).
Spring starting in March can bring some rain showers, but the autumn months, September and October, are ideal for travel if you want to relax. In the off season the beaches are less crowded and the prices drop, weather, however, remains stable and the water is still agreeably warm. Generally, you can travel along the Croatian coast at any time of the year. During winter season, however, you should pack some warm clothing in spite of the mild Mediterranean climate. The temperatures seldom drop below the freezing point but some winds might be unpleasant in the winter.

The water visability is superb due to the rocky coast and high depth of the water The 60 m long Italian ship "Taranto" build in Rotterdam in 1899 is laying on the bottom of the see in 22-54 m water depth .Trying to escape from an English submarine in 1943 the boat collided with a sea mine and foundered.
The 150 m long Italian supply vessel "Columbia" bombed by the English Airforce in World War 2 is laying on the bottom below the Konavli stones. The boat is superbly preserved and is laying in the water depth of 57-85 m. You can also dive across many walls which are falling up to 100 m into the depth. One of these walls is the outer side of the St. Andrija Island which is considered to be the most beautiful wall in the Adriatic Sea. You can find there red corals, gorgonians and many kind of fish, sun fish and turtles.
Among the caves are two antique wrecks with more than 1800 amphora in 25-30 m water depth. The amphora are dated 2-3 century before Christ.
