Es Cana - Diving Holiday Destination
Es Cana (Ibiza)
Spain is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world, attracting more than 50 million visitors each year. Most tourists book cheap flights for a couple of weeks of sun, sand, and sangria to the Spanish "costas", which are spread along Spain's Mediterranean coastline. Beyond the main tourist traps there are rich and varied landscapes in this huge country of many contrasts. Spain is also a popular diving destination that can offer Mediterranean diving.
The Balearics consist of 3 islands, Ibiza, Mallorca(Majorca) and Menorca(Minorca), and they can provide clear and warm scuba diving conditions. The islands have numerous scuba diving operators and clubs. Diving can be done all year round, but winter is a little unpredicatable. Although the Balearics have a reputation for lively nightlife, there are pockets of peace and tranquillity to be found.
Ibiza is famous for its traditional Spanish Towns, Countryside, Beaches, vibrant nightlife and can offer accommodation from budget hostels to luxury hotels.
Warm, clear waters and over 200 kilometres of spectacular coastline make Ibiza a popular resort for both amateur and professional divers, almost the whole year round. There are many excellent and qualified diving schools located around the island offering courses from Beginner up to Advanced. Dive locations include cave dives and wreck dives. The water is particularly clear around Ibiza.
A sweep of golden sand where children can play safely all day, cheerful places to eat out, lively family entertainment bars, and a tiny harbour filled with fishing boats and fabulous views across the sea to distant islands; this is the family friendly resort of Es Cana.
Situated in the east of the island, Es Cana has all you could want for a 'fun in the sun' family holiday. The beach, supervised by lifeguards, is where the kids will excitingly drag you to relax and soak up the sun while they get out their buckets and spades.
Water babes are more than catered for on the bananaboat, add waterski, parasailing and windsurfing and there's plenty of daytime action for everyone. Surrounding the resort there are beautiful unspoiled beaches, which are easily reached by foot, like Cala Martina which has a large windsurf school and an excellent diving school - the clear waters around Ibiza have a wonderful underwater world.
Evenings can be filled with fun and frolics, or quiet and low key depending on your mood. Choose from homemade pub grub or steak and all the trimmings - there's plenty to suit even the fussiest of eaters and children are welcomed everywhere. Couples might enjoy an after dinner stroll along the sea front; families can choose a livelier night with special entertainment for the kids; or everyone can test their knowledge in a pub quiz! With fun pubs, amusement parks and quieter beachside bars; Es Cana will never disappoint!
The biggest and most famous Hippy Market is held each Wednesday and because it’s only a short stroll from the main resort there's no extra costs involved in getting there! The hustle and bustle is a sight to behold, with objects from around the globe, handmade jewellery and much more you'll be hard pressed to keep your money in your purse!
From the small harbour, daily boat trips take you to sophisticated Ibiza Town where you can wander the cobbled streets of the old walled town, or Santa Eulalia with its classy marina, pristine beach and many shops. Or, for the more adventurous, a day trip to our beautiful little sister island of Formentera. You can also enjoy a ride on the little train into the Ibicecan countryside.
Close by, the small white-washed village of San Carlos is home to the legendary Anitas Bar which was the original hang out of the hippies. It also has a pretty little church and a few good restaurants.
Whilst at night don't miss the excitement of Ibiza Town; it literally comes alive with colour and spectacle when the 'beautiful people' come out to play in their fabulous clothes!
Climate
Summer - May until October
The summer season and the first really warm beach days begin in May, with beautiful clear, sunny days and temperatures in the mid-twenties. From June to September, there is very little rain fall. In August and September the temperature rises up to over 30º C. Ibiza has a remarkably mild climate - even in winter the temperature rarely drops under 0º celsius. From November to April the average daytime temperature is about 15º celsius - however when the sun comes out this can rapidly climb to 25º C.
It does rain - but a general rule of thumb is that it only rains for 3 days at a time (at least that's what us locals say!). Ibiza in Winter is not a beach destination, although on sunny days you'll find sun-worshippers on the beach, many of whom still swim!
