Aberdeen Diver with severe spinal bends
17th June 2008
A Royal Naval Helicopter had to make a 180 mile dash to save a diver with severe bends.
The helicopter at great speeds had to fly below 300 feet in order to make sure the stricken diver wasnt affected by the air pressure making her condition worse.
Last night the unamed diver was being treated at the national Hyperbaric chamber in Aberdeen and her condition is reported to be seriously ill.
The woman was reported to have been caught by a very strong underwater current near the Firth of Clyde at a depth of 130 feet and dragged rapidly to the surface where she got spinal bends.
Spinal bends is the most severe form of Decompression illness where victims can be left paralysed or even die as a result of the injury.
