Tortuga reigns as Playa Del Carmen’s most popular Dive Site due to it being inhabited by large amounts of Sea Turtles, hence its name, the Turtle Garden.
It’s a fairly flat reef, gradually sloping from 55 to 130 feet (16 to 40m), and covered in corals and large barrel sponges, where king Crabs, nurse sharks, angelfish, groupers and tarpons can be seen.
The dive usually starts at the southern end , and you then drift with the current in a northerly direction. Its best to stay at a depth of around 60 feet (18m).
